Another revealing quote from the British "Sun", regarding Sarah Palin:
"She is fiercely anti-abortion and went ahead with her pregnancy with son Trig, now five months, after learning at an early stage that he would have Down’s syndrome."

No need to read between the lines here. The Sun is tabloid journalism at its very worst from our neighbours in the UK, but that's not to say that it isn't populist, or doesn't always reflect the majority viewpoint. And in this case, we in Ireland differ dramatically from the UK and, indeed, the US. More than the unannounced arrival of my son Jacob with his happy extra chromosome, the shocking statistics on abortion rates for Ds babies was a slap in the face that I won't recover from. We do not offer abortion here, which makes it a bit easier for me to feel sanctimonious at times, but although I find myself not totally opposed to the principle, I recoil from the statistic that 98% of detected Ds babies do not survive gestation before being killed in the UK. 98%! That is nothing less than a policy to me. I do not rush to judge the (very often misguided) parents either. This is an economic policy. Human life be damned, it's cheaper to wipe the 'problem' out before it starts properly.
Of all the things that I can find fault with in your potential VP Sarah Palin, her attitude towards her son Trig is not one of them. And whether she wins or loses, she has already done something great for children like ours.
